5 laptop bombs in 2013
Promoted quite aggressively at launch but due to weaknesses from many sides such as operating system, not convenient design, expensive price . the PC laptops that were considered outstanding products had to bear the number or stop producing or reducing selling prices .
Here are five computer bombs that could be considered a failure in 2013.
Surface Pro and Surface RT
Produced at the hands of the giant Microsoft, it seems to be a " guarantee" for the success of Surface. However, the reality took place quite the opposite. Microsoft's tablet hybrid laptop has been continuously taking the whole set of failures.
Surface is considered a device that Microsoft wants to combine both types of devices: Laptop and tablet into one. However, the result of this combination is a "half-lean, half-fat" device . If used as a tablet, it cannot be used by other normal tablets such as iPad, Nexus 7 . but if used as a laptop, the hot machine is uncomfortable, the battery life is too bad.
The consecutive discounts that Microsoft must apply to both products are the clearest evidence. The worst is the Surface RT, which has caused Microsoft to lose nearly $ 1 billion in the last quarter. According to some analysts, this failure is also part of the reason for CEO Steve Ballmer to retire earlier than planned.
Ideapad Yoga 11 (running Windows RT)
Following the trend of hybrid tablet and laptop devices last year, Ideapad of Yoga also has a fate. The design of the machine is quite unique with the screen rotating. However, Yoga is not successful due to the use of Windows RT operating system - Windows 8 version runs on machines using ARM chips rather than strong Intel chips (thus not running traditional Windows). Lenovo recently announced to stop providing this product.
Yoga 11 equipped with Nvidia Tegra 3 chip, 2 GB RAM, 64 GB internal memory. The 11.6-inch multi-touch screen of Yoga 11 only has a resolution of 1366x768 pixels.
Asus Taichi
The laptop Taichi from Asus stands out with 2 backlit screens (external screen that supports touch). This solution gives users a bit more flexibility in their use, but Taichi feels overwhelmed, not really necessary.
Meanwhile, these 2 full HD screens are the cause of Taichi's selling price, which is high in the team, not suitable for users. In Vietnam, the price of Asus Taichi is up to 47 million dong . It seems that Taichi is just a laptop for Asus to "speak out" rather than their flagship product.
XPS 10
Launched at IFA 2012 news nearly a year ago, XPS 10 suffered the same fate of many other laptops running Windows RT: Poor sales due to the Windows RT ecosystem are not attractive enough for users.
The XPS 10 itself has many limitations such as no USB port, low memory, weak chip (SnapDragon Plus), expensive ($ 499 not including the keyboard comes for $ 179).
