YouTuber Samperson (Sam Chiet) was able to run Doom in Notepad using ASCII graphics as the render engine at 60fps. According to him, the video above is not accelerated, nor did he edit anything in Notepad, Doom simply runs in this editor natively. He also plans to release Notepad Doom to everyone in the next few days.

Chiet is a game developer and experimental creator who loves to tinker with old systems and find ways to breathe new life into them.

In September, he detailed his plan to revive Xbox's defunct Kinect technology, a motion-capture sensor from Microsoft that was included in the Xbox 360 and Xbox One consoles.

Although Microsoft invested heavily in Kinect, it was not reliable enough and there were not enough games that supported it. This forced Microsoft to stop producing the device. Today, the sensors that were used in Kinect can be found in Microsoft HoloLens devices.
