Windows computer worm forces users to view Homestar Runner
The malware researcher, Danooct1, introduced the virus in his latest video, which is part of a series of videos about malware, including WannaCry and NotPetya. Dan said he read about Lacon worm on many antivirus databases. He has found a template for this virus to entertain us.
- Summary of the most frightening "virus worms" on computer systems
'The video you see is the worm running on the real computer,' Dan said. He doesn't need to program or re-create anything to make this video, making it look like Windows 98 SE with Virtual PC 2007. It sends emails, creates files and changes the homepage to Homestar. When opening one of the emails with the subject of National No Call Registry Info, the .exe file in it will run automatically.
When the virus invaded the computer, a pop-up window appeared, saying 'Angry Computer', claiming it had given up. It emails everyone in the Windows Address Book contacts and copies the executable file to multiple folders, with titles like '1000 Porn Site Passwords.exe', 'Desktop Stripper - HOT! .Exe' and 'AIM Password Hack.exe.'
Dan said that according to his research, it originated in late August 2003.
