What is a BBS file?
This article explains what a BBS file is and how to open or convert a BBS file on your computer.
What is a BBS file?
BBS stands for Bulletin Board System. They are used by BBS to store things like messages, descriptions, and metadata information.
DIZ files can be used in conjunction with BBS files in the bulletin board system, but they are used to describe the types of files that users upload to the server.
How to open the BBS . file
Since this is a plain text file, you can open a file with any program that reads and edits text documents.
Since BBS files are not a common file extension, chances are a text editor won't open it when you double-click the file. Instead, you need to first select the correct BBS opening tool, and then use the program's menu (probably File > Open option ) to browse for and open the file.
Or, if desired, you can change the extension of the BBS file so that your editor sees it as an identifiable file. For example, since most text editors are built with support for opening .TXT files, you can rename your BBS file to use the TXT file extension. That will allow it to open normally when you double-click the file.
BBS files can also be opened with BBS software such as Mystic BBS or Maximus BBS, but the specific steps to take are different for each program. For example, you need to follow these steps to open a BBS file with Mystic BBS.
How to convert BBS . files
You should convert the BBS file instead of keeping it with the .BBS extension. Fortunately, since the BBS file is a text file, converting one is really easy.
Similar to opening a file, you can convert a BBS file with a text editor like Notepad in Windows or TextEdit in macOS or with any of the free programs mentioned above.
When converting BBS files with a text editor, you can choose from a variety of text-based formats like TXT, HTML, etc.
As read above, you can even rename the file extension to TXT. It's not a real conversion since you're just renaming the file, but the actual conversion from BBS to TXT isn't necessary either, since the BBS file is already in the same plain text file format as the .TXT file.
To rename a BBS file to TXT in Windows, you must show hidden file extensions.
Note : Changing the file extension is not a real file conversion. File conversion can usually be done with a file converter, but most do not support BBS files.
