Toshiba launched the first laptop to integrate HD DVD burners

It is expected that by the end of this week, Toshiba will start selling its first model of the laptop with HD DVD burners for about $ 3,500.

It is a Qosmio laptop (G40) for users who want to enjoy high definition video on PC. The device is equipped with two digital TDTV tuners to both watch and record, and a 400GB hard drive.

In the short term, the new Qosmio G40 version has only been announced for sale in Japan (on Friday, December 21), while plans to launch foreign markets have not yet been announced by Toshiba. Often the previous Qosmio versions were sold overseas after only a short period of time introduced in Japan.

The Qosmio G40 is equipped with a 17-inch screen, 1920x1200 resolution, suitable for viewing HDTV in full resolution.

The HD DVD-R / RW recorder can be used to transfer programs or TV or recorded content from a high-definition video camera to an archive disc. The recorder also supports the new HD Rec format which allows HD content to be recorded on traditional DVD discs. This is a very useful feature for users. However, the capacity of DVDs is lower so it can only record 24 minutes of HD video on a single layer DVD.

The basic configuration of the Qosmio G40 is as follows: Core 2 Du processor 2.2GHz, 2GB RAM, NVidia GeForce 8600 graphics chip, 4 harman / kardon speakers, wireless LAN 802.11 a / b / g.

Like most other large screen multimedia laptops, the weight of the Qosmio G40 is very heavy - 4.5kg. However, because it is an integrated system all in one: computer, TV, video recording, this is not a big obstacle.
