Toshiba said it will apply the broadband processor chip technology of the popular Sony PlayStation 3 gaming system (PS3) to future notebooks.
Developed by Sony, Toshiba, and IBM, Cell Broadband Processor technology is currently primarily used on PlayStation 3 game consoles and on several high-end blade servers.
But not only does the Cell Broadband Processor application only serve the processing of existing applications, but Toshiba will also expand and integrate the graphics technology for this microprocessor chip.

Accordingly, SpursEngine technology will help to mobilize from Synergistic Processing Element (SPE) on Cell / BE, however, SpursEngine will only have 4 SPE cores instead of 8 cores as on existing Cell chips. Toshiba said the new chip will have very strong capacity in handling MPEG-2 and H.264 standard movie encoding.
The first prototype SpursEngine operates at 1.5GHz and has a power consumption of 10-20 watts. Meanwhile, the Cell chip used on the PlayStation 3 operates at 3.2GHz. Both processor chip standards use DRAM memory chips.
Toshiba said it will present the first model of the new laptop chip technology application at the upcoming CEATEC JAPAN 2007 exhibition, fully demonstrating the ability to handle 3D images with many applications. use other computer graphics.
