Zootopia is finally back in the human world! The first trailer for Zootopia 2 , the sequel to Disney's 2016 hit Zootopia, was released on May 20. In the trailer, police officers Judy Hopps (Ginnifer Goodwin) and Nick Wilde (Jason Bateman) return to investigate a mysterious new figure who appears in a haunting black cloak.

The former enemies turned friends are joined by Gary De'Snake, who " arrives at Zootopia and turns the animal city upside down " - according to the film's synopsis.

Along with familiar characters, Zootopia 2 will also introduce a few new faces and actors — including Fortune Feimster and Quinta Brunson.

How did Zootopia end?

In the first Zootopia, police officer Judy and con artist Nick are initially enemies. However, after realizing that dozens of predators are disappearing, they must work together to uncover the mysterious truth.

As Judy and Nick begin investigating the disappearances, they uncover a secret plot in which someone is poisoning the flowers to turn these predators into "ferals." Their investigation reveals that Deputy Mayor Dawn Bellwether (Jenny Slate) is the mastermind behind the flower poisoning, with the intention of instilling fear in the townspeople and using her power to her advantage.

Fortunately for the world of Zootopia, Judy & Nick were one step ahead of Bellwether. They outwitted her by replacing the darts in her gun before she could shoot and poison them. They recorded Bellwether's entire confession. Eventually, the mastermind and his accomplices were arrested.

The film ends with the predators returning to their natural state. Meanwhile, Nick has also changed his rogue nature and joined the Zootopia Police Department with Judy. He becomes her partner and the first fox cop.

Now friends and partners, Judy and Nick must work together to uncover " a trail of great mystery " surrounding a new character, Gary. According to the synopsis, to solve the case, they must go undercover in unfamiliar places around the city. This mission will put their growing partnership to the test.

Co-director Bush revealed that the sequel will show audiences " hidden corners of the city that audiences have never been to ."

" Whether it's a swamp of semi-aquatic mammals, vast desert dunes, or even bigger mysteries, our heroes Judy & Nick will meet new friends, discover more about the world, themselves, and a whole new snake in town, " Bush added.

Which actors will return in Zootopia 2?

Both Goodwin and Bateman have confirmed they will reprise their roles as Officer Judy and Nick. Before the trailer was released, Shakira also revealed that she would be returning as Gazelle.

Among the characters revealed to be returning in the trailer are Sheriff Bogo (Idris Elba), Yax (Tommy Chong), Mr. Big (Maurice LaMarche), Clawhauser (Nate Torrence), former Assistant Mayor Bellwether (Slate), Stu Hopps (Don Lake), Bonnie Hopps (Bonnie Hunt), and Flash (Raymond S. Persi).

As for the new members joining the animal kingdom, in addition to Quan, both Brunson (Dr. Fuzzby) and Feimster (Nibbles) will be joining the new adventure.
