Tensor G5 Benchmark Leaked: Google's Most Powerful Chip Ever
Google's entire Pixel 10 lineup will be powered by its in-house Tensor G5 processor, and judging by the latest benchmark leaks, we're seeing a significant performance boost over the Tensor G4. Part of the reason for this is that the new SoC is being mass-produced by TSMC instead of Samsung. The chip has just been tested on an unreleased Pixel 10 Pro Fold, and according to the latest comparison, there's a 36% difference in computing power compared to Google's current flagship chip.
The recently leaked single-core and multi-core benchmark results of the Tensor G5 are impressive, but the disappointing thing is that despite the switch in manufacturing partners, its overall performance is still a generation behind the Snapdragon 8 Elite, Dimensity 9400, Dimensity 9400+, A18, and A18 Pro. This gap will surely increase when the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2, Dimensity 9500, A19, and A19 Pro are released.
Specifically, the Tensor G5 scored 2,276 points in the single-threaded test and 6,175 points in the multi-threaded test, which is up to 36% faster than the Tensor G4. The Tensor G5 uses a '1 + 5 + 2' CPU cluster (1 high-performance core + 5 efficiency cores + 2 energy-efficient cores). Despite having only a single high-performance core, Google still delivers an impressive performance increase in just one generation. With this increase, it is clear that using TSMC's second-generation 3nm process brings a surprising advantage. 2026 promises to be even more interesting as Google is said to be switching to the Taiwanese semiconductor giant's 2nm technology for the Tensor G6.
Other notable specs of the Pixel 10 Pro Fold include 16GB of RAM and Android 16. While Google has made some performance improvements with the Tensor G5, it's still disappointing that the SoC doesn't really compete with other processors. However, Soniya Jobanputra, a key member of Google's Pixel product management team, said at the launch of the Pixel 4 last year that the Tensor G4 "wasn't designed to break benchmark records, but to improve the user experience and address stability issues."
If the Pixel 10 series equipped with Tensor G5 can deliver a similar experience to high-end devices running Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2 or Dimensity 9500, the smartphone market will witness exciting new competitions.
