11 most brilliant cherry blossoms in Japan
In Japanese, Sakura is the common name for the cherry genus of Prunus (Prunus). Currently in Japan, there are nearly 300 species of cherry blossoms and this number is still increasing. Here are 10 of the most beautiful and bright cherry blossoms in the rising sun.
1. Edo Higan
Edo Higan flower has 5 wings, light pink and white mixed. This is the highest-life cherry blossoms, the oldest old trees have thick base, massive stems and wide flowers.
The time to start blooming is higan - Spring equinox, from the end of March to the beginning of April, this flower is also called Edo Higan. Except for Hokkaido and Okinawa, most parts of Japan have Edo Higan flowers.
2. Oshima Zakura
Oshima Zakura originates from Izu Oshima island located in southern Tokyo. The flower has 5 petals, white, fragrant, the leaves of the tree used to make Sakura Mochi - a sweet dumpling wrapped with pickled Sakura leaves. The Japanese used this Oshima Zakura species to breed many different cherry blossoms. Oshima Zakura bloomed in early April.
3. Somei Yoshino
Somei Yoshino is the most popular and popular cherry blossom species in Japan. Flowers have 5 wings, light pink. Somei Yoshino has a short life span, only a few dozen years. Flowers bloom from late March to early April.
4. Kanhi zakura
This cherry blossom has 5 wings, dark red, usually blooms around the beginning of March, among the earliest cherry blossoms. When blooming, the petals are closed but not sprung like other flowers, the buds hang down like small bells. This Kanhi zakura species only grows naturally in warm climates because of its poor cold tolerance.
5. Ohkan Zakura
This cherry variety was created by crossing between Kanhi Zakura and Oshima Zakura. Flowers of Ohkan Zakura have 5 wings, light pink, when blooming petals do not fully flatten and droop even during the flowering season. Ohkan usually blooms in early March.
6. Kawazu Sakura
Kawazu Sakura has 5 wings, light purple and pink, the petals are wide and straight but the flower surface is slightly bent. Flowers bloom from the beginning to the end of February, this is probably the earliest Sakura species so it is often confused with plum or peach blossom.
7. Shidare zakura
Shidare zakura is the common name for drooping cherries, due to early growth of the tree.
8. Yae Zakura
Flowers of Yae Zakura with 10 to 20 wings, which are shaped like a form, should be called with a different name, Botanzakura. This cherry blossoms come in many different colors from light pink, white to dark red . growing all over Japan. Flowers of Yae Zakura often bloom quite late compared to other cherry blossoms, from late March to the end of April.
9. Youkou
Youkou flower has 5 wings, purple pink, flower size is quite large compared to other cherry blossoms. This is a cherry blossom hybrid between Amagi yoshino and Kanhi zakura. Flowers bloom around mid March.
10. Yama Zakura
Flowers have 5 wings, white pink light, flowers often bloom with sprouting buds. This cherry blossoms have a long life, often growing wild on the slopes of Yoshino Yama (Nara) or south of Honshu island.
11. Zakura Ukon
This is a very rare cherry blossom species. Flowers have from 10 to 20 wings, forming many layers, with light lemon color. Zakura Ukon only blooms in late April, when most other cherries have blossomed.
