Source code of upcoming AMD graphics products was suddenly stolen

A very rare incident occurred when on March 26, one of the world's largest computer component manufacturers, AMD, announced a data warehouse containing the source code of a series of devices. Its upcoming graphic product was suddenly hacked and stolen by hackers.

AMD declined to name the stolen products, but according to multiple sources, the list includes models of Navi 10, Navi 21, and SoC Arden. The most notable of these is Arden, a graphics card model expected to be equipped on the popular Xbox Series X gaming console released later this year.

An anonymous hacker said he was holding some important data, including test files related to many current and upcoming AMD graphics card products. He also stated that he wants to contact AMD leaders to negotiate a ransom. There was even a small amount of stolen files that were shared online on some hacking forums (later forced to take down due to AMD's request).

According to a report by TorrentFreak, the anonymous hacker said he would disclose the entire data warehouse he was holding if he did not receive $ 100 million from the integrated semiconductor manufacturer of the United States.

However, it seems AMD is not too worried about this issue. In a public statement. An AMD representative said:

'While it is likely that the culprit is holding a significant amount of data yet to be made public, we believe that stolen IP graphics are not the core components that affect competitiveness or security on corporate graphic products. Also, we are not aware of whether the perpetrator owns any other AMD IP. '

AMD is currently actively working with investigating agencies as well as cyber security organizations to devise a case resolution.
