The Galaxy Z Flip 6 is taller, wider, thinner, and heavier than the base Galaxy S24 when opened. When folded, it's small enough to fit easily into a bag and leaves no gaps, providing extra protection for the delicate screen inside.

What's new this time is the IP48 rating on the Z Flip 6. We're familiar with the water resistance of Samsung foldable phones, but this is the first time we're seeing an official rating for dust resistance. However, it's not as good as the S24's IP68 rating as it's only protected from particles larger than 1mm in size.

Samsung has made an effort to make the creases less noticeable on the Flip 6, but it will most likely become more noticeable after a year of use. In contrast, S24 can maintain its nearly intact condition for longer. So, if you are someone who buys a new phone every 3 to 5 years, the S24 will be more economical in the long run.

Like last year, the Galaxy S24 uses a faster and more reliable in-display ultrasonic fingerprint sensor while the Flip 6 uses a side-mounted capacitive sensor. Since the thumb rests naturally on the side of the phone, the side-mounted sensor is faster because when you take the device out of your pocket, it's already unlocked, allowing the screen to be unlocked quickly. .

One of the biggest advantages of the Flip 6 over the S24 is its ability to stand upright when folded halfway. This allows the use of an external display to see how you are being recorded. If you're a content creator, you'll know how handy this feature is.

Both devices are now brighter than their respective predecessors, with a maximum brightness of 2600 nits, which is enough for outdoor use. However, thanks to its taller screen, the Flip 6 is a more suitable device for viewing media content and scrolling social media, as it can hold more content at once.

Poor battery life is one of the reasons why folding screen phones are not yet popular. After all, there isn't much room left in the device's case after installing the already bulky hinge.

What's surprising is that this time, Samsung has included a respectable 4,000mAh battery on the Flip 6, making its battery life on par with the Galaxy S24 - at least on paper. Both phones have identical charging speeds and reverse wireless charging.

Price, RAM and storage

Unfortunately, the base variant of the Galaxy S24 only has 128GB storage, which isn't enough if you're buying a premium smartphone in 2024. The 256GB base storage on the Z Flip 6 is more respectable.

More importantly, the Galaxy S24 only has 8GB RAM, while the Z Flip 6 offers 12GB across both memory options. You will benefit from the additional RAM on the Z Flip 6 if you are a power user and multi-task. However, this difference may not be significant if you only do basic tasks like surfing social networks, browsing the gallery, and taking photos.

However, when it comes to price, the S24 has the edge, starting at around $800. To get the Z Flip 6, you have to spend an additional $300.

Although the screen inside the Z Flip 6 is still thin and there is no telephoto camera, those two things are probably its only weaknesses. Sure, it's more expensive than the S24, but it also offers more RAM and twice the storage.

Overall, while the Z Flip 6 isn't objectively better than the S24 in every way, it's still worth picking up if you want to change things up a bit and try out a new look.
