Robot milliDelta robot is set up with roles in production and medicine
A milliDelta robot developed at Harvard University promises to open the era for applications in manufacturing and medicine thanks to its innovative creations.
The milliDelta robot, mentioned in the journal Science Robotics, was developed by Robert Wood's team at the Wyss Institute of Harvard Biological Technical Infrastructure, and John A. Paulson of Applied and Applied Science School (SEAS).
By integrating sophisticated manufacturing techniques of robots with high-performance composite materials, robots can produce bending couplings and bending actuators that operate with high precision, making it compatible with a wide range of micro components manufacturing work.
In 2011, inspired by pop-up books and origami, Wood's team developed a micro fabrication method that allows the assembly of robots from flat composite panels. The method is used to build small cm-sized machines that can walk or fly like RoboBee.
In the new study, researchers applied their method to develop a Delta robot with dimensions of 15mm, 15mm, 20mm.m.
In addition, the team demonstrated that milliDelta robots can operate in workspaces of about 7mm 3 and can apply forces and deploy trajectories with high frequency, which can make it suitable for The process of manufacturing components and micronutrients as well as being able to use it in microscopic surgeries such as retinal microscopic surgery is performed on the human eye.
Researchers think that specialized milliDelta robots can be added to existing robot devices or developed into standalone devices for production and medicine.
