Review of EarFun Air Pro 2 headphones: When 'Chi-fi' tries with True Wireless
In the Audio World, if you want to own famous products, you should go to European, American or Japanese brands, and if you want to have products with outstanding performance and price, you must go to China. Chinese audio products are so highly regarded that they have their own nickname "Chi-fi", which is a combination of "China" and "Hi-fi". About a year ago I also experienced the Blon BL-03, at that time a pair of "phenomenon cheap" wired headphones.
The market gradually turned to True Wireless, from which companies from the "factory of the World" also began to produce this type of headset. EarFun Air Pro 2 is one of the representatives of the rrue Wireless "Chi-fi" generation of headphones that promise a lot of things in the price range of $ 100, since its launch, it has attracted the attention of users as well as customers. technology site.
As the name suggests, this is not the first generation of this line of headphones. The first generation EarFun Air Pro pair has also appeared in Vietnam for a while and also brought about certain successes. The 2nd generation is not a completely new pair of headphones, but there are also a few upgrade points to become more complete, although at the same price.
The Air Pro 2's boxing isn't fancy, but at least it doesn't have the silly typos like the Blon BL-03 pair.
The headset comes with a short USB Type-C charging cord, instructions and 5 rubber pads - a little more than the usual 3 pairs.
The charging box of this pair of headphones in general also has a fairly simple design, round and opens horizontally. True Wireless headphones from China often trade the compactness of the box for a longer duration of use, and the Air Pro 2 is no exception when it comes to a total of about 34 hours. Besides, the box is also equipped with Qi standard wireless charging, quite complete!
I must say that I am not really impressed with the design of this pair of headphones. We have a pair of headphones with a "tail" similar to the Apple AirPods Pro, made entirely of glossy black plastic. The first generation of this pair of headphones had a more angular, different design, for unknown reasons EarFun returned with a somewhat lacking design like this.
The outside of the headset is touch-sensitive, capable of controlling all the operations we need. Press 1 time on the headset, right to increase or decrease the volume, press 2 times to receive calls or stop music, press 3 times to switch songs and press then hold to call virtual assistant and turn on active noise cancellation FACILITATE.
As you can see, because of the many features that can be controlled, the touch operation of the Air Pro 2 is also quite complicated, it takes time to get used to. If the company could switch the volume adjustment operation by swiping on the tail of the headset like AirPods, it would be much more intuitive!
Here we also have to mention a weakness of Air Pro 2 and also of quite a few other pairs of TWS headphones from China: software support. If companies like Apple, Samsung, Huawei. are all big and experienced in software, then small firms from China only have strengths in hardware.
EarFun still does not have software to control the headset on smartphones, so we cannot adjust the touch operations to our liking. Additional features such as finding headphones, adjusting EQ, upgrading software, . are not available or need to be done with other 3rd party software. It also depends on the usage of each person that this is a big or small weakness.
In contrast, the built-in features on the Air Pro 2's headphones are quite impressive. The earphones have a built-in proximity sensor that interrupts the music every time we take it out of our ears; IPX5 waterproof standard - not enough to bring to the pool, but can also resist rain and sweat.
The most notable is certainly the ANC active noise cancellation, which the company calls QuietSmart. This is a feature that was previously only found in products of major brands, but is now much more popular, even a pair of $ 100 headphones from China already own.
During the time using this pair of headphones, I also used it in parallel with the Galaxy Buds 2 from Samsung. It must be said that it is quite surprising that the Air Pro 2 gives a higher intensity of active noise cancellation than the Buds 2 pair, effectively blocking the car horn and the speaker. Because of the "tail" design, the wind resistance of the Air Pro 2 is worse than the Buds 2 because this pair of headphones is very compact inside the listener's ear.
On the contrary, we will have to make a little trade-off in terms of comfort. Because of its high intensity of noise cancellation, Air Pro 2 will put pressure on the listener's ears when the music is not open, for those who are not familiar with this technology, it may be a bit suffocated. This is again the strength of the Galaxy Buds 2 pair, even with noise cancellation on, it always feels breathable and comfortable.
Undertaking the Air Pro 2's sound reproduction is a pair of 10mm Dynamic drivers coated with Titanium, a highly rigid material to help the diaphragm move more precisely. No matter what technology is used, the Air Pro 2 is still fine-tuned in the negative direction that EarFun or many other brands are still pursuing: V-shape.
This type of sound makes every song more vibrant and energetic; The difference between the headphones lies in whether they keep the naturalness in the middle (vocalist's voice) to perform well in songs where the lyrics are more important than other bands.
Air Pro 2 does this to a "fair" level, when the singer's voice is brightened in the high-mid to increase clarity, penetrating the rather thick bass. But still like other V-shape headphones, EarFun Air Pro 2 will not be the best product for playing Vocal, Jazz. the vocal expression of this pair of headphones is still appropriate. with more Pop music.
For fans of electronic music and want a thick, dark and rich sound, this will be the True Wireless pair for you. Songs like Unity or Monody by TheFatRat are quite suitable for the sound quality of this pair of headphones, with residual bass, strong playing and bright high tones.
The feature exceeds the price, but lacks the last bit of perfection
No different from other "Chi-fi" products, EarFun Air Pro 2 offers users an outstanding amount of features compared to products from more famous manufacturers. We can mention the good usage time, IPX5 water resistance, wireless charging, automatic music disconnection, strong bass and active noise cancellation ANC.
On the contrary, this is still not a perfect pair of headphones. Through practical experience, we can still find a few weaknesses such as the design is not beautiful, there are not many colors to choose from, there is no control software or depending on the music taste of each person, the sound quality is still low. bit dark.
Overall, these weaknesses are quite small compared to what this pair of headphones can do, capable of providing a full user experience like more expensive True Wireless products.
