Qualcomm launches Snapdragon 768G 5G processor chip
Around the end of last year, Qualcomm launched the high-end Snapdragon 865 processor and the latest mid-range Snapdragon 765 processor, both of which support 5G. The first Android smartphones equipped with the new Snapdragon 765 are just about to debut, but Qualcomm is already considering introducing the next upgraded version, which offers even more impressive CPU and GPU performance.
Snapdragon 765 also has an upgraded gaming performance version, the Snapdragon 765G, which is a major step towards 5G support on mid-range smartphones and offers powerful performance. The main difference between SD 765 and SD 765G is GPU, which according to Qualcomm claims, the Adreno 620 graphics chip improves performance by 20%.
Therefore, there is a question that many people will ask is, 'Snapdragon 768G will be different?'.
Qualcomm says the Snapdragon 768G processor will continue to improve the GPU performance by about 15% compared to the Snapdragon 765G. Besides, the CPU will also be clocked up to 2.8GHz, from 2.4Ghz as of 765 and 765G.
Other specifications and features of Snapdragon 768G will be similar to its predecessor. That means the processor will also have a Snapdragon X52 modem chip that supports two 5G bands, mmWave and sub-6GHz.
It is difficult to understand that the new Snapdragon 765G launched not long ago, even the smartphones equipped with this processor today are very few. But Qualcomm rushed to launch an upgraded version that improves performance. Obviously, manufacturers will have no reason to choose Snapdragon 765 or 765G, if there is a better choice.
That also means that some mid-range Android smartphones launched around the beginning of this year will suffer, such as Xiaomi Redmi K30 5G. According to the schedule, we may see mid-range Android smartphones equipped with Snapdragon 768G in the second half of this year.
