Places you shouldn't waste time cleaning regularly

Cleaning your home regularly can help you have a pleasant living space, but is it necessary to scrub every corner? Although everyone likes a clean house, cleaning the following areas can be time-consuming, laborious, and unnecessary.

Inside the kitchen cabinet

The kitchen is definitely one of the most important areas in the house that needs to be cleaned regularly, if not daily. But as cleaning experts say, you don't have to over-clean it because it's an area that gets dirty often.

A quick wipe down to remove crumbs and obvious spills is usually enough. Unless you're dealing with a dangerous spill, leak, or breakage, there's no need to go to the trouble of doing a thorough clean. Don't bother taking out the entire contents of your pantry for a thorough clean every time you cook, because it's not really necessary.

Granite and marble surfaces

These are two popular materials used in kitchens and bathrooms. Of course, they need to be kept clean, but remember one important thing: Granite and marble are sensitive surfaces, and if you use abrasive chemicals or scrub too hard, they can easily be damaged.

Instead of trying to deep clean these areas with harsh chemicals or abrasive materials, you should disinfect them with soapy water or a specialized cleaner specifically designed for granite or marble.

Indoor lighting

Light switches are important to clean regularly since they are touched so often, but the light fixtures themselves probably don't need to be cleaned. Just wipe or vacuum occasionally.

In fact, this is a good rule to follow for most areas of your home. Any area or item that you don't directly touch doesn't need to be a priority for cleaning.

Outdoor lighting

A quick sweep of your outdoor entryway should be part of your cleaning routine, but this isn't necessary with outdoor lighting as it's sure to get dusty every day.

Outdoor lights are more susceptible to dust and debris than indoor lights, so a wipe with a damp cloth every few months will keep them looking great without the need for regular, thorough cleaning.

Baseboards and wall trim

You should definitely wipe down your baseboards and moldings regularly to remove dirt, but there is a downside to this. Often, this requires vigorous scrubbing or the use of harsh chemicals, neither of which are necessary.

Over-cleaning can wear down paint or finishes, making them look worse over time. Additionally, constantly moving furniture to reach baseboards can lead to scratches or dents. If you don't want this to happen, consider reducing the frequency of cleaning these areas.

Cabinet door

Cabinet doors are prone to staining, especially if they are made of glass or have a glossy finish. However, even with the most fingerprint-prone doors, you probably don't need to wipe down the entire exterior every week.

Usually, a light wipe to remove fingerprints and smudges is enough. If you notice a lot of smudges or scratches, clean more thoroughly. Otherwise, save time and focus on areas that are used frequently, spot-checking and cleaning only when necessary.
