The company has stopped supporting the application on Windows 10 Mobile devices and plans to stop using it on Windows 10 devices in the near future.
Microsoft Reader application is said to be redundant on Windows when Edge contains full of useful features such as highlighting or drawing directly on PDF files for users to easily take notes and edit.
After February 15, 2018, you will not be able to use the PDF Reader application on Windows 10 anymore. Microsoft suggests users should use Edge browser to read PDF, Windows XPS Viewer for XPS and Windows Photos application to read TIFF files.
Although you say that, you can still use Google Chrome or Firefox to read PDF files if you don't want to download more applications or use Microsoft Edge.
Currently, you can still use Microsoft Reader until February 15, 2018.
