Microsoft launches new Surface Laptop model with 5G support

In late January 2025, Microsoft announced two new Surface computers for business customers: Surface Laptop and Surface Pro, both powered by the latest Intel Core Ultra 200 Series processors. At the time, Microsoft promised to launch an optional Surface Laptop version with 5G connectivity, and today, the company officially introduced one of the most anticipated features in the business community.

The Surface Laptop 5G (official name) has been officially revealed. This 13.8-inch laptop retains the same design as the non-cellular versions, the only difference is the integrated 5G compatible with both Nano SIM and eSIM. However, as Microsoft explains in the announcement post, equipping a laptop with 5G is not as simple as adding a modem. The company had to carefully research to develop a "dynamic antenna system" consisting of six strategically placed antennas that automatically adapt to the environment to ensure optimal signal reception.

The device can seamlessly switch between cellular and Wi-Fi networks to maintain uninterrupted connectivity. It can also act as a mobile hotspot for other devices in areas without Wi-Fi.

Unlike conventional laptops, which typically place the antennas near the bottom of the device, the Surface Laptop 5G places the antennas higher up to reduce interference. Microsoft also developed a new shell material - multi-layered laminate - that allows radio waves to pass through without reducing performance, while still ensuring the durability, light weight, and premium feel of the Surface line.

Like other modern Surface devices, Surface Laptop 5G is a Copilot+ PC with integrated Intel NPU, supporting many AI features and experiences such as Recall, Click to Do,.

Surface Laptop 5G will officially be available from August 26, 2025, starting at $1,799 (Core Ultra 5 configuration, 256GB SSD, 16GB RAM). In addition, Microsoft also began providing two previously announced products, the 13-inch Surface Laptop and the 12-inch Surface Pro, to business customers.
