Microsoft launches 'savior' Windows 365 Reserve - Cloud computer ready to replace when main PC has problem
If one day your main computer goes on strike due to power outage, malware infection, update error or any other reason, Microsoft is ready to lend you a Cloud PC to continue your work without interruption.
That is Windows 365 Reserve – a new service under the Windows 365 platform (helping access to Windows 11 PCs on the cloud platform) that has just been introduced by Microsoft. With Windows 365 Reserve, users will be able to borrow a temporary cloud computer, up to 10 days per year , to maintain work while IT handles the main device.
If multiple computers in the company are experiencing problems at the same time, administrators can deploy pre-configured Cloud PCs (applications, settings, security policies, etc.) so that employees can log in instantly from any secondary device – just a modern browser or Windows App. When the Cloud PC is provisioned, users will receive a notification with clear instructions, including an expiration date. A warning will be sent 3 days before the expiration date, and once you are done using it, you can 'release' the Cloud PC to make room for another time.
Microsoft says Windows 365 Reserve offers three key benefits :
-
Fast deployment – Minimize work disruption.
-
Simple Administration – Integrated with Microsoft Intune.
-
Maximum Security – Comply with company policies, easily revoke access, and many other administrative tools.
Windows 365 Reserve is currently in limited public testing . Businesses interested in participating can register via the form or contact the Microsoft account team.
Note that Windows 365 (and the Windows 365 Link slim device version) are not yet open to individual users . However, Microsoft has added many features to minimize the risk of problems when the machine has problems, typically Quick Machine Recovery - allowing to apply patches and fixes right from the recovery environment. QMR and many other improvements promise to make Windows 11 version 24H2 'the most reliable version of Windows ever'.
