Microsoft launched AV1 codec for Windows 10
Microsoft has released free video codec AV1 for Windows 10 devices. Users can download it from the Microsoft Store online store. As part of the test program, cdic currently supports PC, Surface Hub and HoloLens.
A strange thing is that this codec only works on devices that have updated Windows 10 October 2018 Update. Now, it is no longer available because Microsoft recalled from last month after encountering too many errors. This update has a lot of serious bugs.
Microsoft said the codec will run smoothly on all Windows 10 devices, but it is likely that the error will be small. However, they promised to improve on subsequent updates.
'Let's play video AV1 on Windows 10 devices. This is a test version of the decoder AV1 that allows you to play videos encoded with video standard AV1 developed by Alliance for Open Media', Microsoft said.
'Because of early release, you may get an error when playing video AV1. We are still improving. If you allow the app to automatically update, you get the latest updates when they're released. '
AV1 Codec is now available on Microsoft Store
