List of Samsung Galaxy Watches models that will stop being supported after September 2025
Samsung has officially confirmed that it will end support for Tizen-powered smartwatches in September 2025. This decision marks the final stage in the roadmap to kill the Tizen platform, demonstrating Google's strategy to transition to the Wear OS platform.
After that date, the South Korean tech giant will no longer provide software support. In other words, Samsung will not provide any operating system updates or feature additions to these smartwatches, except in special cases, such as emergency security.
The Tizen Watch service termination schedule will follow these key milestones:
- 9/30/2024: Stop selling and downloading paid content
- 11/30/2024: End of paid content payments
- 5/31/2025: Stop downloading new free content
- 9/30/2025: End of ability to redownload purchased content and end of entire service
Although Samsung has not released an official list, the product lines expected to lose support include:
Galaxy Gear Series
- Galaxy Gear (original)
- Galaxy Gear 2
- Galaxy Gear S2
- Gear S3 Classic
- Gear S3 Frontier
Galaxy Watch series (running Tizen)
- Galaxy Watch (1st Generation)
- Galaxy Watch Active
- Galaxy Watch Active2
- Galaxy Watch3
From Galaxy Watch4 onwards using Wear OS will not be affected.
Samsung's smartwatch division began transitioning to Wear OS in 2021 after partnering with Google. While it dropped Tizen from Galaxy Watches, Samsung TVs still maintain Tizen OS with a seven-year support policy - showing the difference in platform strategy between product lines.
