Huawei officially launched its own operating system Harmony OS, ready to give up Android
Today, Huawei has officially introduced the operating system developed by the company with the official name of Harmony OS at the Huawei Development Conference 2019.
Richard Yu (Yu Chengdong), CEO of Huawei Consumer Business Group, said Harmony OS was built on micro-kernel architecture, allowing the operating system to work on many different hardware and share through a distributed architecture to improve efficiency. The operating system will operate on nearly all smart devices in its ecosystem including smartphones, TVs, tablets, smartwatch, smart cars .
Harmony OS is an open source operating system because Huawei hopes developers, developers can freely create their own applications on this platform.
At tomorrow's Honor event, the first product to use Harmony OS will be released.
Yu Chengdong said that Huawei's smartphones are still loyal to Android because users are familiar with the operating system. However, the company will immediately leave Android to Harmony OS anytime Google does not want to cooperate.
Huawei also shared some highlights on its own Harmony OS operating system:
- 25.7% reduction in response latency by identifying the slow and optimal factors to achieve accurate resource utilization, giving users a smooth and stable experience.
- Can work on devices with different RAM levels, ranging from a few kilobytes to hundreds of gigabytes.
- Equipped with advanced security features, significantly improved kernel level security. In addition, Harmony OS will not allow root access in terminal devices to ensure comprehensive security of the entire terminal.
- Has its own Ark compiler.
- Support programming languages like C / C ++, Java, JS and Kotlin.
- In the future, applications for HTML5, Linux and Android will be able to run on HarmonyOS.
As announced by Huawei, the company will release Harmony OS 2.0 for PC, wearable devices by 2020 and Harmony OS 3.0 for service stations, handheld devices, VR and many other devices in 2021.
Currently Harmony OS 1.0 will focus on smart TVs and monitors.
