HP has returned to the familiar leading position.
According to the latest statistics of Canalys, HP has regained the leading position in the worldwide computer market in the first quarter of 2012. Apple once won this position in the fourth quarter of last year, mainly because the iPad (which sold more than 15 million units) was also counted as a computer item. Meanwhile, if you don't count the iPad on computer items, HP is far ahead of the rest of the rankings, according to Canalys.
In the first quarter, Apple sold 11.8 million iPads, bringing the total number of computers sold to 15.8 million. HP's computer sales are not much higher, only about 40,000 units but that is enough for this "giant" to return to the leading position. Lenovo is also quite impressive with 3rd place by impressive growth, 50% over the same period last year. Acer and Dell hold the remaining positions in the top 5 but sales are down from last year.
iPads are a threat to all computer manufacturers.
The computer market in general recorded an increase of 21%, to 107 million units. Meanwhile, notebooks alone have the highest growth rate, reaching more than 200% per year. Laptops and desktops have an increase of 11% and 8% respectively. Meanwhile, netbooks continue to see their heavy downturn with a 34% decrease compared to the same period last year.
The trend of most manufacturers is to gradually shift netbook production to tablet models. Samsung, Lenovo and Asus are representative representatives of this type of production. However, to deal with the current two " bosses " of Apple and Amazon, only Samsung is able to achieve sales of over one million units in a quarter.
