How to delete messages on Skype

You don't want others to read your chats stored in Skype's chat history. Or sometimes delete Skype chats to free up space on your computer and your phone. But still do not know how to delete and hide messages on your device. Let me help you!

Delete the sent message

Find the message you want to delete.

1. Android: Press and hold the message, select the trash icon, and then click Delete .
2. iOS : Press and hold the message and select Delete in the pop up window.
3. Mac : Hold Ctrl and select the message, then click Remove Message.
4. Windows for computer : Right-click the message and select Remove Message .
5. Web : Right-click the message and then select Remove Message .
6. Skype Preview for Windows 10 : Right-click the message, then select Remove Message .

This method can only be deleted after it has been sent in a short time.

Delete the entire conversation

When deleting a conversation, all messages in the conversation will be lost, and disappear on the sidebar and history. The conversation will be deleted from Skype on the device in use, which will still be displayed on other access devices, unless deleted on all devices.

Find the conversation you want to delete.

1. Android : Press and between conversations, click the trash icon, then select Delete .
2. iOS : Select the chat title at the top of the screen and select Delete chat in the chat option .
3. Mac : Ctrl and select the conversation in the sidebar. Next press Delete Conversation .
4. Web : Right-click the conversation, select Delete Conversation . Continue pressing Delete in the confirmation box.

Deleting the entire conversation is currently not supported on Skype computer version and Skype Preview for Windows 10 .

Hide chats on Skype

1. Android : Press and hold the conversation, click the trash icon, then select Hide .
2. iOS : In the contacts section, swipe left and select the Delete icon and select Hide .
3. Mac : You can't hide the Skype chat conversation, but you can delete all recent conversations from the sidebar. In the menu bar, click Conversation , select Clear Recent , then confirm the Clear Recent in the new window.
4. Windows for computer : Right-click the contact, then select Hide conversation .

There is currently no support for Skype for Web chat or Skype preview for Windows 10.

You can edit recent messages before sending them

1. Android: Press and hold the message, select Edit message . Change the content then press the checkmark button.
2. IOS : Press and hold the message, select Edit and then edit the message.
3. Mac : Press Ctrl and click on the message, select Edit Message , change the message and press Save .
4. Windows for computer : Right-click the message, select Edit Message . Next step, edit the content, then press Enter .
5. Web : Right-click and select Edit Message , edit the message. Finally press Enter .
6. Skype Preview for Windows 10 : Right-click, select Edit Message, change the content and press Enter .

This method, can only be applied after a short time has been sent.

Difference between deleting and hiding conversations on Skype

1. Deleting a conversation will remove all message history from your device but can still be viewed on other devices unless deleted from all devices.
2. Hiding the conversation can only move them from the recent list, but keep the chat history in case you want to review it.
