What is CyberLink YouCam? Do you need it?

If you like to transform yourself into an alien or Santa Claus during a video call then CyberLink YouCam might be the app for you. Other effects include weird backgrounds, all sorts of clipart and comic-like effects, hats and fake beards, and even a hand-drawn tool if you want to get creative on your own.

CyberLink YouCam works with most major messaging apps, including Skype, Yahoo Messenger, and AOL Instant Messenger.

Many of the photo enhancement tools found here are only useful for those taking pictures on a Windows 8 device. However, you can still apply filters, effects and performance improvements on the webcam. Tell you a little tip, will be more useful and effective when used with a tablet. Besides the fun part, this software solution includes a video surveillance utility that can help you control your assets effectively without the expense of investing in an expensive surveillance system.

All effects contained in this communication tool are neatly arranged in different tabs and their results can really be applied in real time. The overall interface of the tool is very smooth, in an intelligent Adobe AIR style. It also very effectively organizes the photos you've taken in a calendar that can tell you when certain pictures were taken.

The most recent release of CyberLink YouCam also has an enhanced interface with augmented reality technology, allowing you to interact with 3D virtual objects in the video preview window. With the existing support for HD video, this adds another layer of realism to effects, although many still don't look as subtle.
