BadgeDAO blockchain platform begs hackers to return $119 million
The value of virtual currency is calculated according to the exchange rate at the time the hacker stole it, not the time you read the article, so there will be a slight difference.
And now, blockchain bridge protocol BadgerDAO has pleaded with hackers to return the money they stole.
"You have taken away money that does not belong to you but we are willing to work with you and pay a bounty for a security hole you found in our system," BadgerDAO stated. "We are providing you with a direct line of communication to discuss a peaceful solution, without involving any third parties. Contact us to discuss further and do things. properly on behalf of the community".
In the BadgerDAO hack, the hacker used an old-fashioned web attack method. It's possible that an attacker stole an API key that allowed them to take control of BadgerDAO's account on Cloudflare, the project's content delivery network for their website.
As a result, a hacker can inject a malicious script into a website that causes users to give up ownership of their digital wallet. After that, the hacker just takes the cryptocurrency from the derelict wallets and leaves.
Demanding money from hackers seems like a hopeless, desperate strategy. However, there has been one case of success with this strategy.
Earlier this year, the famous virtual currency platform Poly Network was hacked and lost about 600 million USD. The company then posted a letter to the hacker with the opening "Dear Hacker" and called the hacker Mr. White Hat to call for goodwill. And surprisingly, after several exchanges the hacker returned most of the money they stole.
Let's wait and see if BadgerDAO gets the lost money back.
