As the smartphone market changes, Android is expected to grow significantly by 2024, even "twice" that of Apple's iOS.
iPhone has had a strong presence in the United States for a long time, but Apple has also seen significant growth in the global market in recent years. As a result, Android's market share has shrunk, although the operating system still holds the majority globally.
However, according to IDC, Android will grow significantly faster than iOS throughout 2024.
Speaking to CNN, IDC research director Nabila Popal said that Android will grow at 'twice the speed of iOS' this year. Apple's sales fell 10% in the first quarter of 2024, putting Samsung back in the lead, largely due to a decline in sales in China.
The fact that Samsung has returned to the leading position is also very meaningful. This year, we expect Android to grow at twice the rate of iOS.
Meanwhile, Apple is facing pressure in the US with a DOJ lawsuit against the monopoly that Apple holds over the iPhone. The lawsuit concerns Apple's anticompetitive practices on things like messaging and the App Store, among other things.
