6 months for 8 skills and life you will change!
Any skill you learn brings practical benefits to life. It may not help you right away, but at some point it is the skill that you learn and practice that brings change that you didn't expect. Learning skills will never be redundant, you will even feel missing them if you do not experience the skills in life.
In just 6 months, we can practice the following skills and know where, they change your life completely.
1. Quick reading skills:
Bill Gates is known for his affirmation, if he was to choose a superpower, he would want to be able to read faster.
Bill and the rest of the super successful people always understand that knowledge is power. The ability to process information faster from books, newspapers, and reports is what will help us learn faster, and therefore will improve areas of our lives better.
Where can we learn this skill : Quick reading is becoming more popular when we realize that our time is very limited. You can take free courses like Read Speeder or you can start learning how to use Spritzlet, which allows you to speed up online reading with a browser extension.
2. Presentation skills in public:
Research shows that people are more afraid of speaking in front of the crowd than fearing death. There is something very scary when standing in front of hundreds of people and expressing yourself. It's a time when you are most vulnerable, but learning how to speak in public is a factor that changes your life.
Warren Buffett used to give advice to new graduates that the number 1 skill needed to succeed is a public speaking skill. Everything from communication, confidence and entrepreneurship are developed as you develop this skill.
Where can we learn this skill : The good thing is, there are big communities like Toastmasters, where they organize exchange meetings in the region all over the world. You can find there from professional speakers who want to further improve their ability to those who just started.
3. Spanish:
Being the 3rd most spoken language in the world, the ability to master Spanish will help you communicate with more than 500 million people everywhere. No matter where you are, knowing Spanish is becoming increasingly important as the population and economy of countries say this language is expanding rapidly. If you are living in the United States, this becomes even more important as 30% of the US population is now Hispanic.
Spanish is on this list partly because it is the easiest language to learn. Of course Mandarin (Chinese) is also very important but it is extremely difficult. If we compare both the level of importance and the amount of time it takes to learn, Spanish will always be at the top of the list of languages to learn.
One of the biggest reasons why people can never master a foreign language is by misusing learning methods and lack of time.
One study has shown that we humans retain only 5% of what we have learned through lectures, 20% through applications (visual cues) and 90% through real-life situations. However, what are 90% of new language learning methods today? It is through school (course), books, Duolingo (application), etc. these learning methods do not bring real situations to help our brain learn faster.
Where to study : If you want to have the most effective way to learn a language, learn from real situations. There are great websites like Rype, where there is a Spanish teacher for busy people, helping to solve the lack of time and helping you practice real-life situations online. With Rype, you can study as many lessons as you like, anytime, as long as you can arrange a suitable study time.
4. Accounting:
If you are looking to start a business, accounting is one of the most essential elements to success. Although not necessarily an expert, you should also understand the basics of this discipline.
This skill can also be applied in personal financial management, thereby achieving financial goals and better controlling your life.
Where to study : If you don't study accounting at school, don't worry. You can study by yourself at home with books or through free online courses
5. Microsoft Excel:
Most of you who are reading this article have a basic understanding of Microsoft Excel. This is a good start, but there are still many other powerful functions in hidden Excel that can help you in life.
Excel is also a great skill when you look for a job, because many corporations use Excel to organize and manage business departments.
Where can we learn this skill : With the popularity of Excel, you can find countless free resources and online videos. Try reviewing Excel Exposure, Lynda, and Excel with Business.
6. Blogging / Vlogging:
Blogging is a powerful tool if you want to spread your ideas, build your personal brand or grow your business. Since its introduction, the blog has grown enormously, today there are approximately 2 million blog posts written every day.
Where can we learn this skill : Anyone can start blogging right now. All you need is a content management system like WordPress, completely free. I personally think that the best way to start learning how to blog is to write it down. There are many techniques that can help you promote your blog to more people but the most important thing is still the content you write down.
7. Bodybuilding:
That's right, bodybuilding is also a skill. It's not as difficult as learning to program, it doesn't take as much time as learning a new language, if you just want to learn the most basic things.
We are not sure you will get a body like Arnold Schwarzenegger, but you can easily see your body changes quickly if you train properly. And of course, when you are confronted with a physical activity, caution is never redundant.
Where we can learn : Many fitness experts are sharing their know-how through free channels on YouTube. For example, you can go through Bodybuiding.com's YouTube channel to get started.
8. Editing photos and videos:
We live in the digital world, from YouTube, Instagram to Facebook, we can't help but interact with pictures and videos. In fact, social media is using less and less plain text but more about using images and videos.
Where can we learn this skill : To edit photos, you can use Photoshop. To edit videos, you can use iMovie or Final Cut Pro. Remember, there are dozens of photo and video editing software you can use online, but the most important thing is still your skills, not what the software can do.
You can also visit educational websites like CreativeLIVE or Skillshare, where you can learn from the best software designers and software experts.
