Windows Azure will change its name to Microsoft Azure
As part of an effort to emphasize the power of its services, Microsoft will rebrand the cloud platform from Windows Azure to Microsoft Azure.
Is Windows Azure renamed?
The announcement will be made by Microsoft today ( March 25 ), and the new brand will take effect on April 3, the second day of the BUILD conference that Microsoft held in San Francisco. Information given by a source close to Microsoft said.
The reason for changing the Windows Azure brand, the source said that it doesn't mean Azure is only for Windows, because Azure customers can run from Linux. And Azure users can also run databases from Oracle and use non-Windows development tools, including Java, Ruby, PHP and Python .
In 2008, when Windows Azure was known under the code name Red Dog, Microsoft's message said Windows Azure was a cloud version of Windows Server. By 2012, there were some minor confusion when Microsoft removed from Azure from its cloud payment gateway. To reassure users, Microsoft officials said the company had no plans to leave the Windows Azure brand.
And so far, although Windows is still important to Microsoft, the company is trying to change some of its businesses when it doesn't let things get too much involved with Windows. Specifically, the company is researching how to locate Microsoft as a software and service delivery platform. The best evidence for this is that the company is supposed to introduce the Microsoft Office suite for iPad on March 27, showing how the company will change its business.
