Why should you install an additional USB wall outlet?

Many people have bought a few TOPGREENER 3.6A USB Type-C/A 3-port combination wall sockets, placing them in the basement, ground floor, bedside table, kitchen, office and the place next to the sofa where they often work. Since then, the need to change chargers has ended.

The hunt for a charger has become a daily routine that many people hate the most. You can open a drawer to find a variety of cables, but the wall outlet never has the right port. When your iPhone is low on battery, your iPad is at 2%, or your MacBook needs power, you have to rummage through the junk drawer like a lost cat.

So many people have bought a few TOPGREENER 3.6A USB Type-C/A 3-port combination wall sockets, placed them in the basement, ground floor, bedside table, kitchen, office and the place next to the sofa where they often work. Since then, the need to change chargers has ended.

Why should you install an additional USB wall outlet?

People have spent years lugging chargers around the house. The MacBook charger stays in the office, but sometimes they need it in the bedroom at night. The iPhone charger keeps wandering from the kitchen to the living room, and many people spend minutes each morning looking for it.

Half of your devices use USB-A, while the other half use USB-C. You can carry both cables everywhere, and things still get messy quickly. It's bad enough if you're running late to work one morning with your phone at 5% battery and can't find a charger in the house. So why not add a USB port to your wall outlet?

Choose the right USB-C socket

Why choose the 20 amp version?

Not all USB wall outlets are created equal. The best options are 15 amps or 20 amps. Speed matters when charging laptops and tablets, so get the 20 amp version. The price difference is a few hundred dollars per outlet.

The TOPGREENER example in this article has everything you need. Two USB Type-A ports, one Type-C port, and two regular surge protectors. The regular plugs are still there; but the USB ports are a plus.

The drive provides a total of 3.6A, up to 2.4A per port. It features IntelliChip that is supposed to detect your device and charge at the appropriate speed.

The downside is that it doesn't support USB-PD fast charging. The MacBook will take longer to charge than Apple's charger. But for overnight charging or topping up during the day, it's still pretty fast.

Where should they be installed?

Proper placement makes the difference

You might want to start in the basement, where you've added a few outlets in areas where devices need to be charged frequently. Then work your way up to the main floor, focusing on the areas where charging convenience will have the biggest impact.

Place the first outlets next to your nightstand. Now you can charge your iPhone, Apple Watch, and iPad overnight without having multiple chargers cluttering up your nightstand.

Your kitchen counter should have an outlet too, right where you put your phone while you cook or eat breakfast. No more sacrificing your desk outlet for bulky chargers. Your desk essentially becomes a charging station—laptops, tablets, anything that needs power, goes there.

What about the socket on the sofa? You use it more than you think. Reading, watching TV, working on the sofa. Friends who come to visit can charge their devices without having to ask you for a charger, which is great.

Simple upgrade but long lasting effect

Installing USB-C wall outlets is one of the best home improvements you can make, and it also makes your home office look more professional and organized. Charging ports in every room eliminate the daily hassle of having to find the right charger. You'll need some basic electrical knowledge and some safety precautions, but the actual job isn't that complicated if you've ever done anything yourself at home.

If juggling multiple chargers drives you crazy and you want your chargers to work without you having to think, these outlets are definitely worth the money. Just turn off the power at the circuit breaker first—or hire someone to do it if you don't want to mess with wiring.
