Why is cucumber bitter and how to fix it?

Why is cucumber bitter?

This compound is found in cucumber leaves, stems and roots, making these parts of plants bitter to avoid being eaten by insects and animals. Sometimes, this substance is present both in the stem and penetrating into the fruit. This is why many cucumbers are bitter at the beginning.

Other factors such as weather and nutrients also contribute to the bitterness of the cucumber. Specifically, low sunshine, drought and low temperatures can damage the roots of melon trees, resulting in poor absorption of water and nutrients. This partly causes Cucurbitacin to accumulate in the stems of the fruit and make the melons bitter.

The bitter taste of cucumber only makes the person feel not good and uncomfortable, but it does not negatively affect health.

How to handle cucumber when not bitter

Method 1: Cut off the two ends of the melon and rub vigorously 2 ends in a circle until a white milky layer appears. Removing this milky foam will cause the bitter substance in the fruit to disappear.

Method 2: "Marinate salt" for cucumber: Cut cucumbers into 2 halves vertically. Sprinkle some salt on the face of half of the melon and rub them together until white foam will appear. Then rinse the cucumber with water and enjoy.
