History of formation of SMS messages

In 1984, the Franco-German GSM company of Friedhelm Hillebrand and Bernard Ghillebaert introduced the concept of SMS. The first text message was sent in 1992 from Neil Papworth, typed on a PC because phones didn't have keyboards, and read 'Merry Christmas'.
