According to statistics from Sophos security company, 'relatives' of Mytob with 160 different variants occupy 7 of the top 10 locations of the top 10 table. Mytob virus continues to spread quickly through email and peer-to-peer networks and turn users' computers into 'zombies' to spam emails containing their copies to addresses available in the address book.
But despite having an immense force, Mytob could not overcome Netsky, the brother of Sven Jaschan with Sasser, who was once famous. Netsky dominated the top 10 with 13.9% of virus alerts in July.
Graham Cluley, senior technology expert at Sophos, said Mytob's boom was the result of a group of bad-minded people trying to spread the virus worldwide.
