The number of malware on Macs is nearly double that of Windows

Macs are safer and less likely to be infected with malware than Windows, which many users still trust. However, this is no longer true when a recent report showed that in 2019, the number of threats targeting the Mac surpassed the PC by 2: 1. This is the first time in technology history that this situation has occurred.

Malwarebytes, an antivirus software developer, released this report. The report shows that the number of threats targeting Mac has increased by more than 400% over the same period last year.

According to Malwarebytes, this significant increase may be due to the increase in Mac's market share. The bad guys will target more Apple computers as more and more people use them. The report also emphasizes that macOS with its security features is not strong enough to protect against adware (adware) and malware.

According to the report, other than PC the main threats on Mac are adware and PUP. With adware, at the top of the table is NewTab, a line of adware that often spreads through flight tracking websites, maps . capable of redirecting search keywords on the browser to make money illegally. And PUP, usually "system cleaning" applications like MacKeeper and MacBooster.

Adware and PUP are considered less dangerous than traditional malware, but the threat is increasing as the number of these types of malware increases.
