Grayshift company of a former Apple security engineer has announced a tool that can unlock iOS 11 devices but still has some limitations.

This is not the first company to claim to be able to unlock the iPhone. About a week ago, Israeli security company Cellebrite has also announced that it has successfully developed a tool that can unlock all current iPhone versions, including iPhone X running iOS 11.

According to Grayshift's shared information, their unlock tool is a brute force-based password guess, which can guess 300 passcode passwords and cost $ 15,000. If the customer has to pay $ 30,000, they will have the tool to guess the unlimited passcode.

According to Ryan Duff, Point3 Security's network solution manager, Grayshift and Cellebrite's iPhone unlocking methods are the same, exploiting the vulnerability on the Secure Enclave, a standalone chip on the iPhone that has cryptographic locking.

By increasing the execution time, it can take up to 1 hour for 9 attempts to enter a password, Secure Enclave makes the method of guessing the password harder to implement. But the speed of guessing the password will be corrected faster when this mechanism is compromised.

In recent months, Apple has released many security updates for the iOS 11 operating system. So, whether Grayshift's method works for this operating system, we still have to wait for concrete evidence to get the correct answer.
