Read Along: Google's recently launched multi-language reading application

Google has just officially released Read Along, a completely new application, developed to help children develop reading skills in many different languages. This app has been launched in more than 180 countries around the globe.

Basically, Read Along was developed on Google's intelligent voice platform. The app was first released in India in March as 'Bolo' and received extremely positive feedback from kids and parents alike. This is a stepping stone for Google to release it globally as Read Along.

You can find this app on the Google Play Store, it's free and only requires users who are 5 years or older, and devices that don't use Android versions older than 4.4.

Inside the application will be a virtual tutor to teach reading for children named Diya, based on the technology of speech recognition and text conversion into Google's automatic voice. Diya will give verbal and visual feedback to children as they teach them to read words, sentences, or stories aloud in a given language.

If he finds that a student is having difficulty reading / pronouncing a word or phrase, Diya will immediately make a corresponding comment, as well as how to fix it. In case the child cannot read a word, they can also click on Diya to see the pronunciation and the meaning of the word. With the above-mentioned features, Read Along is not only suitable for children to learn to learn how to read their own language, but also a great tool to support foreign language learning.

In addition to reading practice stories, Read Along also has some simple games that both support reinforcement of knowledge, and help create excitement for learners. In these games, children can collect stars and badges that correspond to their learning progress.

For classrooms or families with many young children, Read Along has an option to set up profiles for many learners. Each profile will allow parents to be able to track in detail the progress of their children's training and customize the reading experience and difficulty level of the story and the game according to their actual ability.

In particular, a plus point of Read Along is that this application will work completely offline, meaning you will not need internet connection to use the application. However, if you want to download more stories and games for your child, you will still need an internet connection.

Read Along currently supports 9 different languages, including some of the most popular languages in the world such as English, Spanish, Portuguese or Hindi. The number of languages supported will certainly increase in the future. Although not yet Vietnamese, this is also a very useful application to help children learn to read English.
