Huawei launches Kirin 820 5G: 7nm process, supports 5G, 27% higher performance than Kirin 810
In addition to Honor 30S, Huawei recently launched Kirin 820 5G - its first mid-range 5G processor during the event held in China. The chip is built on a 7nm process and is an upgraded version of the Kirin 810, introduced in June last year.

First is the CPU, Kirin 820 5G with a total of 8 cores arranged in 1 + 3 + 4 model, including 1 Prime Cortex-A76 core clocked at 2.36GHz, three other Cortex-A76 cores clocked at 2.22GHz and 4 core Cortex-A55 1.84GHz.
The Kirin 820 comes with a 6-core Mali-G57 GPU, but Huawei does not disclose the specific clock. In addition, it also incorporates a new feature called Kirin Gaming + 2.0, which helps bring many improvements and optimal performance when playing games.

Not only that, Kirin 820 also has NPU (specialized nerve processor) and Kirin ISP 5.0 image processor inside. According to the manufacturer's announcement, the new ISP saves power up to 15% and has 30% better image noise reduction, as well as BM3D SLR noise reduction technology. This is the same ISP used on the high-end Kirin 990 chipset.
Compared to its predecessor, the Kirin 820 5G is said to have an overall performance improvement of 27%, of which the processing power of the GPU is 38% higher. In addition, the new NPU also has an AI task handling efficiency of 73% higher than the previous generation.

In terms of connectivity, the Kirin 820 supports SA and NSA dual-mode 5G networking, five frequency bands - n1, n3, n41, n78 and n79. On devices using this chip, users can set SIM 1 to 5G and SIM 2 to 4G VoLTE, or set both SIM 1 and SIM 2 to 4G VoLTE.
Currently, the Honor 30S is still the only smartphone equipped with Kirin 820 5G. However, the new chipset will soon be available on many upcoming mid-range phones from Huawei and Honor.
