How to find Ancient City

To prepare for an expedition to an Ancient City, gamers need to do the following things.

Find a city

If you are using the Ancient City seed, you only need to dig on the coordinates of the ancient city. However, if you are playing in your own world, a different approach is required.

First, dig deep underground until you reach the Deepslate layer, close to Bedrock. When you get somewhere between Y=-44 and Y=-52, start mining. This gives the best chance of finding an ancient city

Players should approach Ancient City from the same level or from below, because if mined from above, the character risks falling directly into it. Even if the player survives fall damage, the player is still at risk of being killed by the Warden. Ancient City is also more likely to spawn under new mountain biomes.

Prepare items

To ensure safety when exploring Ancient City, gamers need to prepare the following tools:

1. The best possible armor, weapons and tools.
2. A good food source like cooked pork casserole or yellow carrots.
3. Multiple piles of wool or carpet and a pair of shears. These blocks can be used to block vibrations.
4. Silk Touch hoe to collect Sculk blocks and destroy Sculk Shriekers.
5. Medicine to see in the dark.
6. Infinity Bow/Snowball/Egg to distract the guards.

Some optional items:

1. A full set of Netherite armor, ideally with Protection IV.
2. Some golden apples or golden apples are enchanted to heal quickly.
3. Several Ender Pearls to escape.

The most important thing when exploring Ancient City is to move stealthily at all times, unless the player is in corridors with gray wool passages. Simultaneously press two directional keys for faster stealth.

Ancient City Exploration Guide

Defeat Sculk Shrieker

This is the most important thing to do when exploring an ancient city. The player needs to destroy or place wool around Sculk Shriekers that are about to scream, to prevent them from summoning Warden. However, breaking them will activate nearby Sculk Sensors, which in turn can alert other Sculk Shriekers nearby.

To prevent alarm sounds, wrap the Sculk Shrieker with wool before breaking. Since that method is quite tedious, be prepared to run away when necessary. Ideally, the player should have a safe exit that leads away from the Ancient City, towards the surface, to be safe.

If the Warden is digging back into the ground, rush in and destroy all the Sculk Sensors and Sculk Shriekers. No Warden can spawn during this time period.

Loot chests in Ancient City

Ancient City Chests can be surrounded by several Sculk Sensors and Sculk Shriekers. If this is the case, prepare an exit, use a pickaxe to break all the Sculk blocks and get out as quickly as possible.

First, always destroy the Sculk Shrieker closest to the exit. People can use the fleece-covered corridors as a safe route to sprint from the Sculk Shrieker screams without risking triggering any nearby Sculk Sensors.

If there's a group of multiple Sculk Shriekers in close proximity, people can quickly place high-level light sources around their 11x11 spacing. This prevents the Warden from spawning despite the clang.

However, it is important to check if there are any other chirping nearby that are not covered by the light source. If the player can't disable any screams, then Warden will definitely spawn at this point.
