Google just confirmed the release date of Android 16
Have you noticed that some devices are getting Android version updates earlier than others? If you don't like seeing other people get the patch before you, don't worry! Google has confirmed when Android 16 will be released, and from what we know, most compatible devices will get the update around the same time.
Google reveals Android 16 release date
On the Android Developer Blog, Google revealed its upcoming plans for 2025. There's a lot of useful information here if you're an Android developer. But if you're not, this paragraph has some interesting information:
Next year, we'll have a major release in Q2 and a minor release in Q4, both of which will include new developer APIs. The major release in Q2 will be the only release in 2025, and will include behavioral changes that may impact apps. We're planning our major release in Q2 instead of Q3 to better align with our ecosystem-wide device launch schedules, so more devices can get the major release of Android sooner.
The main focus here is the 'official release' – that is, Android 16. Not only does this confirm that Android 16 will be released in Q2 (around April, May, or June), but it also seems like people won't have to wait long to get the update on their phones.
If you're interested in getting Android 16, chances are you won't need to buy a new phone. If you already own one of the best Android phones this year, there's a good chance it's compatible with Android 16 and you'll get the firmware update from your device manufacturer.
