Galaxy S20 Ultra has just been updated with a special 'close zoom' feature
Galaxy S20 Ultra was launched by Samsung alongside the Galaxy S20 and S20 Plus in February 2020, and is the company's most advanced flagship device at the moment with a series of upgrades and drastic improvements in both design, hardware configuration, features and performance.
Thanks to the high-resolution 108MP sensor, the main camera on the Galaxy S20 Ultra is capable of capturing zoomed images without losing details compared to the 12MP camera on the two Galaxy S20 and S20 + 'junior'. However, one major drawback is that the ability to focus on the objects close to the 108MP sensor on the S20 Ultra is less effective and less stable than the 12MP sensor on the Galaxy. S20 and S20 + due to longer focal length than usual.
Galaxy S20 UltraIn other words, the main camera of the Galaxy S20 Ultra does not allow you to focus on close to good objects like the camera on the Galaxy S20, S20 + models. This is a hardware limitation and cannot be fixed by software. To solve this problem, Samsung has launched a new camera function specifically for Galaxy S20 Ultra in the latest update.
This new camera function basically works like a macro mode: Every time you get too close to the subject and the Galaxy S20 Ultra realizes it can't focus correctly, the system displays a toggle button named is 'Use close-up zoom'. Pressing this switch automatically aligns and increases the zoom by 1.5 times, so you only need to take close-ups without having to hold the phone close to the object.
See how 'Use close-up zoom' works in the video description below:
This is exactly a trick (zoom in for macro photography) that Samsung took advantage of in a fairly smart way, helping users still be able to capture sharp and realistic macro photos at 1.5x zoom level without Reduce image quality.
Hopefully this solution will satisfy Galaxy S20 Ultra users. However, in future products, Samsung should do a good job of optimizing the hardware in the first place so that it does not need to take more time and effort to find a solution like this.
