Microsoft has developed a custom Linux version of its own to use in Azure Sphere, equipping MCU chips.

Recently, Microsoft has developed a custom Linux version of its own for use in Azure Sphere, equipped with MCU chips. This is a historic turning point after 45 years of Microsoft Windows operating system development, because the technology company once considered Linux a threat to the superiority of Windows operating systems.

Azure Sphere is a new technology developed by Microsoft to support an operating system platform and provide security for smart devices of the Internet of Things. In the future, every smart device in the family will be equipped with a microcontroller chip (MCU), which acts as a very small brain.

And Azure Sphere technology, combining both hardware, software and cloud protection to give MCU chips away from hacker attacks.

First, Microsoft will provide semiconductor manufacturers a free design for new, stronger and more secure microcontroller chips.

Second, Microsoft developed the Azure Sphere operating system - a customized version of Linux for new MCU chips. Microsoft does not use Windows because the operating system for the computer is too large to run on MCU chips.

Thirdly, MCU chips running Azure Sphere operating system will be integrated into Azure cloud security service and will continuously be updated with the latest security patches.
