Find X2: 0 to 100% Super VOOC 2.0 65W quick charge test took just over half an hour, not hot
Each OPPO product has its own design, strengths and weaknesses, but all have one thing in common that is equipped with VOOC fast charging. Mid-range products are equipped with conventional VOOC, and high-end machines have Super VOOC standard with speed always leading the market.
The Find X2 - its new flagship product, is equipped with VOOC 2.0 charging capability with a capacity of up to 65W! For comparison, the current iPhones use 18W, Samsung is at 25W with the charging dock attached to the machine and raised to 45W with an external charging dock. With the aforementioned huge charging capacity, OPPO says it can fill a 4200mAh battery in just 38 minutes!
To achieve this, the company has adopted technologies inherited from its old product lines as well as new innovations. Like the previous R17 Pro with the old Super VOOC standard, Find X2 does not have a large battery but has 2 small batteries with a capacity of 2100mAh to have a total capacity of 4200mAh. When charging, electricity will enter both batteries to speed up, as well as dividing to avoid overload.
With Super VOOC 2.0 standard, the company also announced that it has applied a material called Gallium Nitride (GaN) which we also have a detailed explanation article . In short, GaN has a higher conductivity limit than silicon, thereby transmitting a higher power source without causing damage. New material also has high performance, reducing the amount of electricity consumed by 10 - 25%. This material 2 years ago was still 'in beta', but has now been applied to reality.
In addition, we will still have 5 steps to protect the system that has been applied in all previous VOOC versions, including:
- Anti-overload at adapter by sensor checking voltage and amperage. When the current is stable, the MOSFET will activate fast charging, otherwise it will disconnect or switch back to normal charging.
- At the adapter with MCU chip, check if the device supports Super VOOC charging, then provide a large power supply.
- The R17 Pro also applies MCU at USB Type-C port, to verify Super VOOC standard.
- On the battery also has IC and MOSFET protection.
- Control the circuit at the smartphone, will automatically disconnect the circuit if something goes wrong.
To use Super VOOC 2.0, users will have to use the dock and the charger that the company comes with in the box. As you can see in the photo below, the Find X2 charging dock is twice as big as the others on the market! Even the USB-C charger has a diameter of 'different people', which looks more like a laptop computer's charging cord than it is for smartphones.
This is probably the only weakness of OPPO's VOOC charging standards, when users must use the accessories to achieve the charging speed as advertised, and if used with other types, the speed degrees will decrease significantly. The fact that these accessories have a large size also reduces mobility, taking up a lot of space when taken away.
Right from the moment, users can feel the speed of Super VOOC 2.0 fast charging through the graphics that the goods use. Instead of just showing the charging notification, the company tells users exactly the percentage of battery to 2 digits after the comma, and this number increases at a very fast rate!
To test the charging ability of Super VOOC 2.0 65W, I purposely let the device run out of battery, turned off the power, then started charging. During the first charging time, the device battery up quickly, 'dizzy', just looked back and forth and jumped a number, specifically:
- After 3 minutes reach 10%
- 5 minutes to reach 20%
- 10 minutes to reach 40%
- 13 minutes to reach 50%
The battery of Find X2 battery over time from exhaustion to full
After 50%, the charging speed shows signs of slowing down, but 'slow' here is compared to the first few minutes of charging, but when compared to the general ground, it is still very fast. Usually, when the battery is running low, the users need the fastest charging ability to quickly use for something, so the fast charging standards such as Super VOOC 2.0 is delayed after 50%. is too big a problem. As advertised by the company, until 37 - 38% the battery is fully charged!
- 15 minutes to reach 56%
- 20 minutes to reach 73%
- 25 minutes reaches 87%
- 30 minutes to reach 95%
- From 37 - 38 minutes fully charged
Charging time for mid-range smartphones, with OPPO R11 Plus (VOOC 2.0) and OPPO F11 Pro (VOOC 3.0)
For comparison, the iPhone 11 Pro Max with a 3969mAh battery needs 140 minutes of charging, the old VOOC 2.0 standard needs 100 minutes to charge the 4000mAh battery and VOOC 3.0 of the mid-range OPPO F11 Pro still needs 80 minutes. A fairer comparison is that the OPPO R17 Pro takes 35 minutes to charge, but this machine has a battery capacity of only 3700mAh, smaller than Find X2 to 500mAh.
Does the device charge while hot? No smartphone will charge without heating up, especially smartphones with metal designs. But according to the senses, Find X2 only stops at 'warm', enough for users to notice only not 'hot', almost equivalent to other smartphones I've used. OPPO announced that this charger has been certified to be safe by TÜV Rheinland - a German testing agency, so we are more assured to use it.
In March last year, Xiaomi announced that it had developed a charging standard up to 100W , which could fill a 4,000mAh battery in just 17 minutes. But according to the company's representative, due to many technical and safety obstacles, after 1 year, Xiaomi has not applied it to any smartphones. Thus, the Super VOOC 2.0 standard appears on OPPO Find X2 which is still the fastest, improving the experience of the device a lot when we do not have to spend time 'clinging' to the wall to wait for the device to finish charging before using. .
