Exclusive content from hundreds of creators on OnlyFans was suddenly leaked online
The problem stems from a group of white-hat hackers accidentally discovered a shared online Google Drive archive, which contained tons of 'exclusive' videos and images from hundreds of accounts. Content creators on OnlyFans. Notably, this repository is completely publicly accessible.
What is OnlyFans?
If you did not know, OnlyFans is a social networking platform originating from the UK. Although only launched in 2016, but OnlyFans has quickly become extremely popular around the world. OnlyFans' mechanism is to require users to pay to subscribe to creative content posted by brands, celebrities, or even other users.
Each OnlyFans user can become a content creator and profit from monthly subscription payments from her followers, as well as from the system's pay-per-view mechanism.
In simpler terms, OnlyFans is a site that allows content creators to monetize by sharing images, videos, and livestreams with fans who have paid to subscribe to their content.
OnlyFans is promoted as a great platform for celebrities and influencers to share their exclusive content with the public. However, this social network is also known as a 'promised land' for those who want to make money online by sharing photos or videos of themselves.
OnlyFans content leaked
In fact, the leak of exclusive, paid content on OnlyFans is not uncommon, but these are basically just small cases, not worth mentioning. While in this new leak, the number of OnlyFans creators with private content leaked at the same time is extremely large, in the hundreds, showing the scale and severity of the incident.
Specifically, in March, researchers at cybersecurity firm BackChannel found a post on a private hacker forum in which multiple members shared a filled Google Drive archive. Content under different topics by OnlyFans hundreds of content creators.
There is no way to see the exact size of this folder without downloading it. However, according to preliminary investigation, this Google Drive archive initially contained exclusive content by 279 OnlyFans creators, specifically folders containing more than 10GB of videos and photos - a zero. small clown. Most of the content appears to have been uploaded by October 2020.
For now, experts still don't know exactly how hackers were able to steal such a large amount of content from OnlyFans. However, it is not excluded that it was synthesized from many different leaks.
The remedy is also not simple. Owners of the leaked OnlyFans content need to report each pirated file to remove them from Google Drive. For those with a large number of leaked files, this can get quite tiring.
How to check if OnlyFans data is leaked
To help OnlyFans creators determine if their content was part of this leak, BackChannel created a site called 'OnlyFans Lookup Tool' (backchannel.re/disclosures). This tool allows OnlyFans creators to enter username and determine if their content will be shared without permission.
If a creator's content is found in the leak, the site will recommend that they visit labac.dev/content, where a DMCA infringement notification template can be used to take the content down.
