iPhone 15 Pro still retains the familiar compact 6.1-inch design. While the overall shape and size remain similar, it's not exactly the same as the previous 14 Pro model.
First, Apple switched to using titanium - a material that is stronger and lighter than aluminum. Dark-colored models still show fingerprints, but lighter-colored models do not.
The other big change is the new USB-C port at the bottom. Users also get faster transfer speeds over USB-C at 10Gbps, a 20x improvement over the old Lightning connector.
In terms of buttons, there's the familiar power (on the right) and volume (on the left) physical keys, but instead of a mute switch above the volume buttons, we now have a new Action button.
iPhone 15 Pro still has the same 6.1-inch screen size as previous models, but the bezels around the screen are now 1/3 thinner. This is subtle but helps achieve a more modern and well-rounded look.
The display tech hasn't changed much: It's OLED, Retina, and supports 120Hz ProMotion for smooth scrolling. And the Always-On feature from the previous model is of course also available.
The maximum brightness level on the iPhone 15 Pro remains the same as on the previous model, but the low minimum brightness level for more comfortable night use is unfortunately not yet available. Regarding biometrics, nothing has changed: iPhone 15 Pro still integrates Face ID in Dynamic Island.
iPhone 15 Pro comes with a 3-rear camera system that looks very familiar with a 1X main camera, an ultra-wide camera, and a 3X telephoto lens. In terms of hardware and sensor size, all three cameras appear to have the same specifications as the iPhone 14 Pro.
However, thanks to the A17 Pro chip and new processing process, iPhone 15 Pro now supports sensor cropping at 1.2X and 1.5X zoom levels, also known as 28mm and 35mm focal lengths. Apple says these are actually two new "lenses." The best part is that these new "lenses" are perfect for everyday photography.
Another new processing trick that makes a big difference in quality is what Apple calls Super High Res mode. This is essentially the new default resolution: iPhone 15 Pro now takes photos at 24 megapixels, up from 12MP on previous models. This is a nice middle ground between low-detail 12MP shots and high-detail but very large 48MP files.
With this new image format, the over-sharpening problem on the 14 Pro has now also been fixed. This is good news and it raises the camera quality of the iPhone 15 Pro much higher than before.
Video quality on the iPhone 15 Pro is improved in some very small aspects, but is still superior to the competition. The main camera records up to 4K60 footage with clear, sharp detail and excellent video stabilization. You can also switch smoothly between different cameras.
iPhone 15 Pro will also support Spatial Video, which is shot with both the ultra-wide and main cameras simultaneously to capture depth. Then relive those video moments authentically on the Apple Vision Pro haedset. However, that feature only launched later this year and isn't available immediately.
Apple launches new chips with each iPhone release. This year, the new Apple A17 Pro processor inside the iPhone 15 Pro makes the move to more advanced 3nm technology, which is a bigger leap than the average annual upgrade.
Here are the exact improvements Apple says users will get:
As can be seen, the iPhone 15 Pro really brings big improvements in CPU speed. GPUs also perform better with long-term use. iPhone 15 Pro now also comes with 8GB RAM, more than the 6GB RAM used in previous models but uses the same LPDDR5 technology.
In addition, there is a new Qualcomm X70 modem, which helps the phone receive a better and more stable signal. Users also get Wi-Fi 6E for the first time on iPhone.
iPhone 15 Pro only works with eSIM in the US, so a physical SIM card cannot be inserted. However, international models still use regular physical SIM cards.
iPhone 15 Pro comes with a 3,274 mAh battery, slightly larger than the previous model. However, the actual battery life of the iPhone 15 Pro remains the same as on the previous model, at least according to the official iPhone 15 Pro battery life numbers from Apple:
In normal use, without the need to do much multitasking, battery life on the 15 Pro is similar to that on the 14 Pro, but with higher usage, the new 15 Pro will be slightly worse than before. .
Unfortunately, iPhone 15 Pro does NOT support faster charging speeds. However, one advantage is the faster USB 3 transfer speed, up to 10Gbps, nearly 20 times faster than before. However, keep in mind that a special cable is needed for that and that cable is not included in the product box.
