Google Orkut, a virtual social network user, is suffering from a new computer worm called Orkut. Although Orkut is not dangerous, it is seen as evidence of fatal flaws in web applications.
Some Orkut users receive an email notification that another user has sent a new 'scrapbook entry' - a name for a social network of Orkut messages - to their Profile. If the user opens the Profile, they will immediately be infected with Orkut .
However, this is not a dangerous computer worm. Its main function is to add infected users to a group of Orkut users named 'Infectados pelo Vírus do Orkut' (You have been infected with Orkut virus). There is no indication that the aforementioned computer worms steal personal data of Orkut users.
The main message is posted on the 'Infectados pelo Vírus do Orkut' informational website that the computer worm is designed to demonstrate that Orkut can be very dangerous to Internet users even if they do not click on any link.
Speed of users infected with Orkut virus has a time of up to 100 per minute. According to statistics on the 'Infectados pelo Vírus do Orkut' group website, the number of people infected with this virus has reached hundreds of thousands.
A security research expert said the feature of sending Orkut scrapbook messages for users to edit messages containing HTML code but has no function to filter malicious Javascript source code. Because of this, hackers can freely add JavaScript code to help them attack at will without much user intervention.
' The first step is that the computer worm has not caused any danger but spreads widely. But the future will certainly be different. They will be able to steal personal information, passwords, account downloads . '
