Like 2D, in the 3D product line, LCD HDTV models use LED backlighting (LED TV) to dominate compared to traditional Plasma and CCFL LCDs. Popularity, energy saving capability and better-designed design make many manufacturers now choose LED as the preferred screen for 3D technology.
Almost all 3D LED TV models available on the market have a Full HD screen resolution of 18 to 65 inches, fully using 3D projection technology as active mode with shutter glasses, passive form with cheap polarized glasses or even without glasses like some Toshiba models.
Therefore choosing a 3D LED TV model requires users to also need careful calculations. 3D LED TV proactively using shutter glass will give unstable image quality, easy to encounter flashing phenomenon and overlap images in too bright environment. Meanwhile, passive 3D LED TVs that use polarized glasses have a more stable image, no flickering or noise, but will sacrifice Full HD resolution.
Choosing LED TV to serve 3D needs, buyers should also note that the direct-type LCD backlight LED will give good image quality, deeper LED LED LCD (LED Edge-lit).
Thus, the advantage of choosing 3D LED TV is in thin screen design and energy saving ability compared to Plasma 3D thanks to LED backlight.
Advantages Disadvantages Overview - Passive 3D LED TVs have no flashes and overlapping images.
High-end 3D Plasma models have better image quality and stability than LED.
3D TVs using Plasma screen technology have fewer options. In Vietnam, buyers can only choose models from Panasonic, LG or Samsung, with limited sizes of only a few sizes like 42, 50 or 65 inches.
For Plasma 3D, the screen resolution is also divided into 2 types, high quality and low quality. Good models from 10 to 20 million usually have resolutions of only XGA 1,024 x 768 pixels and HD Ready 1,365 x 768 pixels. Meanwhile, the more expensive models are equipped with Full HD resolution.
One point to note is that the choice of 3D technology for Plasma TVs is very limited. All models on the market today use active 3D technology, used with shutter glasses.
However, in return for this, owning Plasma screen technology with high image scanning capability, wide contrast ratio makes 3D 3D Plasma display more stable and better than 3D LED. Floating image is smooth, no noise, flicker and has a very wide viewing angle. For example, Panasonic's high-end 3D model VT20 proved to be superior in image quality compared to many other 3D LED competitors.
Also, with the same size, choosing 3D Plasma TVs is always much cheaper than 3D LED TVs. For example, with the same 42-inch size, users have to spend nearly 24 million dong for Samsung's 3D LED D6000 model, with LG's Plasma PW450 model, the money is only over 11 million dong.
The advantage of Plasma 3D TVs is image quality and price. However, this product line also has little choice of models, designs as well as screen size compared to 3D LED TVs. Plasma screen technology is also said to "consume" more electricity than LCD.
Advantages Disadvantages Overview - No overlapping phenomenon.
