Boeing built an unmanned copter
Known as a vertical air cargo plane (eVTOL), this copter is designed to carry loads up to 227kg.
Equipped with eight reverse rotor blades, Boeing's new unmanned aerial vehicle, named CAV, has an impressive 4.57m long, 5.49 m wide and 1.22 m high, plus it has balanced with a total weight of 339 kg. It was designed and built in less than three months, by a team from the company's HorizonX division.
The device has successfully completed initial flight tests at Boeing's Cooperative Autonomous System Laboratory in Missouri.
Although it is currently being controlled remotely, it is intended to serve the testing of automated technology and electric motors. The device has added a prototype for eVTOL air transport vehicles that Boeing's subsidiary, Aurora Flight Sciences, is developing.
Chief technical officer, Boeing, Greg Hyslop said: "This unmanned transport aircraft represents an important step forward in Boeing's eVTOL strategy. We have a real opportunity to change the travel and transport industry. Air freight, and we will look back today as an important step in that journey ".
