Ability to support external displays with the new USB-C port on iPhone 15
The new USB-C port of the iPhone 15 is not only a change in the iPhone's design after 10 years of switching from the first charging port to the Lightning charging port, but it also allows users to charge other accessories such as AirPods and Apple Watch . In a new support document, Apple also explains that the USB-C port on the iPhone 15 also allows you to connect your iPhone to an external display.
As Aaron shared on X (Twitter), Apple has introduced a new support document with detailed information about the iPhone 15's new USB-C port. This document helps explain how the iPhone 15 can connect. with external monitors. In it Apple explains: 'You can connect your iPhone to an external display using the USB-C connector so you can watch videos, view photos, and more on a larger screen.'
The USB-C port on all iPhone 15 models uses the DisplayPort protocol to support USB-C displays. To connect your iPhone 15 to a high-resolution display, Apple says you'll have to use a USB-C cable that supports USB 3.1 or later. The cable included in the box with all iPhone 15 models only supports USB 2, but you can purchase a USB 3.1 cable separately.
With a compatible USB-C cable, every iPhone 15 supports connecting to displays with up to 4K resolution and a 60Hz refresh rate. Furthermore, iPhone 15 also supports HDR displays connected via USB-C port. Apple explains:
"You can switch between SDR and HDR mode by going to Settings > Display & Brightness and selecting your connected display. iPhone matches the frame rate and dynamic range of the content content is currently playing when you enable "Allow display mode change."
With a USB-C to HDMI cable or adapter, Apple says you can connect your iPhone 15 to a display with an HDMI port or a TV that supports 4K and 60Hz resolutions.
Finally, Apple has also confirmed that the iPhone 15 is compatible with its USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter. Using this adapter, you can export video from iPhone at resolutions up to 4K and 60Hz, including content in HDR10 or Dolby Vision formats if your display or TV supports HDR.
When you connect iPhone to an external display, you can choose to mirror the iPhone's interface and view videos and photos available on the device on the larger screen. Use apps, play games on a larger screen.
This is just one of many convenient features when iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro switch to USB-C charging port. You can also charge other devices, unlock higher transfer speeds on iPhone 15 Pro, etc.
