6 best new smartphones launched at MWC 2024
1. Tecno Camon 30 Premier 5G
Camon 30 Premier 5G is just one of the excellent new smartphones launched by emerging technology company Tecno at MWC 2024. Tecno's Camon 30 Premier 5G has an 8-core Dimensity 8200 Ultra SoC, along with 12GB RAM, 512GB internal memory and dedicated GPU for your gaming and video needs.
Its 6.77-inch display has a resolution of 1,264x2,780 and a maximum brightness of 1,400 nits. This is also an LTPO panel, allowing for much better dynamic refresh rates, which is extremely useful when switching between intensive tasks.
Tecno is also promoting the Camon 30 Premier 5G as a phone for creatives, and its new Sony ISP will boost that goal. Sony ISP is a powerful AI imaging and processing chip that powers Tecno's new PolarAce imaging system, providing a range of AI tools.
On it, the Camon 30 Premier 5G has a 3-camera array with a 50MP wide lens, a 50MP periscope telephoto lens and a 50MP ultra-wide lens. It's a powerful combination.
2. Honor Magic 6 Pro
Like Tecno, Honor continuously impresses with its new smartphones and the Honor Magic 6 Pro is no exception. Honor Magic 6 Pro is equipped with the top Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip, 12GB or 16GB RAM and up to 1TB of storage. Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 also significantly enhances the AI features of Magic 6 Pro, such as AI-powered eye tracking to open notifications, calls, etc. and Magic Portal, which allows you to drag and drop information into other applications and search instantly.
Its 6.8-inch display has a resolution of 1280x2800 (453 PPI) and has a maximum brightness of 5,000 nits, which is extremely bright. The Magic 6 Pro has a faux leather back and a 50MP wide lens, a 180MP periscope telephoto lens, and a 50MP ultra-wide lens.
3. ZTE Nubia Flip 5G
One of the least anticipated new smartphones at MWC 2024 is the new ZTE Nubia Flip 5G. ZTE brought a lot of new smartphones to MWC 2024 and the Flip 5G is the most interesting product among them, marking ZTE's first modern folding phone.
This is also a neat looking flip phone, the large round front screen offers a reasonable level of interactivity while also housing the Flip 5G's 50MP and 2MP rear cameras.
ZTE is positioning the Flip 5G in the competitive mid-range folding phone market, targeting the Motorola Razr and Tecno Phantom V Flip (it also looks quite similar to the V Flip).
Its Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 is not as powerful as the latest Snapdragon Gen 8 chip. However, the ZTE Nubia Flip 5G is similar to the Motorola Razr and slightly more powerful than the Tecno Phantom V Flip's Dimensity 8050 chip, which might give it a slight edge.
4. Xiaomi 14 Ultra
Xiaomi 14 Ultra is the dream smartphone of creative people. Xiaomi has fitted a giant 1-inch Sony LYT-900 sensor into the 14 Ultra, a very large sensor for a smartphone.
This massive sensor is crucial to the Ultra 14's quad-camera array, which includes a 50MP wide lens, 50MP telephoto lens, 50MP periscope lens, and 50MP ultra-wide lens, all branded Leica.
It is equipped with the powerful Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip and Xiaomi's AISP artificial neural chip, allowing for many AI-powered features. For example, the Ultra 14's AI Portrait feature creates a unique AI version of you - or anyone else you have at least 20 photos of.
There's also AI image scaling, photo search, translation, etc. along with 4 AI color models to work with and fine-tune your images.
5. Tecno Pova 6 Pro 5G
There are several things about the new Tecno Pova 6 Pro 5G that many people really like.
First, its 6.78-inch, 1080 x 2436 display has very thin bezels, which maximizes how much you can get out of it. It also has a good 120Hz refresh rate, although without the LTPO variable refresh rate found on Tecno's higher-end models (this figure is aimed at budget buyers).
It also comes with 8GB or 12GB RAM, plus 12GB virtual RAM, which works similarly to virtual memory on a regular PC. This is a handy addition that gives the Pova 6 Pro 5G more capacity. There is also 256GB of memory for your games, photos, etc. Additionally, its Dimensity 6080 chip is not too powerful but still good enough for 3D gaming.
Currently, out of all the smartphones we saw at MWC 2024, the Pova 6 Pro is probably the most eye-catching. It has an extremely eye-catching rear panel, above which is a triple-lens camera array and a row of flashing LED lights with different patterns. Thankfully, they're all white LEDs!
Tecno Pova 6 Pro 5G is also remarkably thin. It has a fairly large 6000mAh battery, which is ideal for a cheap smartphone but is still only 7.9mm thick. It also feels light in your hand.
6. ZTE Nubia Music
The ZTE Nubia Music has a large built-in speaker on the rear, which ZTE claims is 600% louder than any other smartphone speaker. The rear speakers are also DTS:X certified.
However, the giant speaker is not all that ZTE Nubia Music has to offer. It also has two 3.5mm headphone ports for a dual listening experience, and better yet, a customizable LED ring around the front screen bezel that you can set to respond to your music.
