4 announcements expected at Galaxy Unpacked 2025

With the event scheduled for January 22, here are four announcements many are expecting at Galaxy Unpacked 2025.

January not only signals the start of a new year, but also the start of an event that many are looking forward to - Galaxy Unpacked 2025. With the event scheduled for January 22, here are 4 announcements that many are expecting at Galaxy Unpacked 2025.

1. Galaxy S25 Slim

Looking at past tradition, Samsung typically releases three devices in its flagship Galaxy S line: a standard model, a Plus model, and an Ultra model. Occasionally, Samsung introduces an FE (Fan Edition) model a few months after the standard line is released, offering many of the best features of the original devices at a more affordable price.

This year, however, Samsung is said to be adding a fourth device to the lineup: the Galaxy S25 Slim. The event teaser seems to back up this rumor, showing four phones side by side.

The Galaxy S25 Slim is expected to feature a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, built on TSMC's 3nm process. The phone is also expected to feature an "Ultra" camera setup, including the same 200MP main camera sensor as last year's Ultra model, with excellent photography capabilities. The device is said to be around 6.4mm thick and feature a 6.7-inch OLED display.

While we likely won't see this phone until mid-2025, there's nothing wrong with hoping it comes out sooner! After all, Apple is rumored to be releasing the iPhone 17 Air this fall, so Samsung could release its slim phone earlier to get a head start on the market!

2. Galaxy S25 series

As mentioned above, Samsung usually announces its flagship smartphones of the year at its Galaxy Unpacked event in January, and this year is expected to follow a similar pattern. All three devices are expected to be powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite processor and run Samsung's One UI 7 on top of Android 15.

Rumors suggest that the screen sizes of the Galaxy S25 and S25+ will remain the same as their predecessors, while the S25 Ultra could feature a slightly larger 6.9-inch display.

While most high-end Android phones now come with 12GB of RAM, including the 2024 Z Flip 6, Samsung's base flagship phone hasn't seen a change. That's expected to change soon, with the Galaxy S25 including 12GB of RAM across all storage variants. Base storage is also likely to increase to 256GB.

3. Project Moohan

While Samsung mostly focuses on its flagship Galaxy S series at its Galaxy Unpacked event in January, it often surprises users with additional product announcements. For example, the tech giant unveiled the Galaxy Ring alongside the Galaxy S24 series at Unpacked 2024.

While we don't expect a Galaxy Ring 2 launch this time around, Samsung could announce its XR smart glasses or its version of Apple Vision Pro - both of which are said to be part of an internal Samsung project, codenamed Project Moohan.

The existence of both the headset and AR glasses was confirmed in a blog post on Samsung Newsroom on December 13, 2024. Thankfully, rumors suggest they could debut at Galaxy Unpacked 2025!

4. Galaxy's new AI feature

2024 is the year of Artificial Intelligence (AI), and this year doesn't look any different. That's why many expect Samsung's entire S25 lineup to be packed with tons of AI features, along with the best Galaxy AI tools from previous models.

Similar to how Apple improved Siri with Apple Intelligence, Samsung is reportedly planning to use AI to make its digital assistant Bixby more powerful. Hopefully, this will put it on par with rivals like Siri. The improved Bixby is said to be able to handle more complex commands.

The new flagship phones will also likely be deeply integrated with Google's Gemini AI model, allowing for in-app tasks to be handled directly on the device. Overall, users are really hoping that the Galaxy AI will have the tools to use on a daily basis.

Ultimately, all we can do is wait for Galaxy Unpacked 2025 to happen and see what Samsung actually has in store. In the meantime, if you're planning on upgrading your current smartphone, Samsung is offering a $50 credit when you pre-order the latest Galaxy device on its website.
