20 harmful ingredients are often found in beauty products
Many of us are often in the habit of choosing cosmetics that rely solely on the outer shell or it may be the most fragrant product, or even a famous person who used it.
After reading through author Gillian Deacon's book: " There's Lead in Your Lipstick: Toxins in Our Everyday Body Care and How to Avoid Them " body care and how to avoid them, I realized that it's time we need to be more careful when choosing to buy cosmetic products.
Now, every time I see my lips covered with lipstick in the mirror, I always wonder whether I am putting lead in my body or if that purple nail polish will cause me cancer later. 20 years from now. No one is sure about that but it is better if you choose a safe solution. Take a few minutes of research before shopping and add a few minutes at the store to check the ingredients in the product to know the true value of the product.
According to Deacon's book, these are 20 harmful ingredients commonly found in beauty products :
1. Asphalt (Coal Tar)
Many studies have shown that tar is a carcinogen , used in the treatment of dry skin, anti-lice and in anti-dandruff shampoo. Some products list tar in color with a number (eg D&C Green No. 6).
2. DEA / TEA / MEA
DEA / TEA / MEA is another carcinogen used as emulsifier and foaming agent in shampoo, facial cleanser, shower gel and other make-up products.
3. Ethoxylated surfactants and 1,4-dioxane
This substance is not recorded directly on the product because it is produced through a combination with ethylene oxide breast cancer. 1,4-dioxane is found in shampoos, hair straighteners, bath soaps and shower gels. Stay away from products with materials that contain the word "eth"; For example: polyethelene, cetearete, oleth.
4. Formaldehyde
Formaldehyde is a carcinogen and skin irritation found in nail products, hair dyes, false eyelashes and shampoos.
5. Perfume and aromatherapy
It is better to choose odorless products. Flavors, if listed on the product, will hide other hazardous chemicals (often used to create specific odors). Flavors cause symptoms such as dizziness, headache and allergies.
6. Hydroquinone
Hydroquinone is a carcinogen, reducing the production of melanin in the skin, making us more susceptible to skin cancer and other skin problems. Especially in skin lightening products often contain these substances.
7. Lead
Lead - causing cancer and disrupting hormones - is found in lipsticks and hair dyes but lead is never written on cosmetic products labels. Because lead is considered a pollutant and is not a component in cosmetic production materials.
8. Mercury

9. Mineral oil

12. Paraphenylenediamine (PPD)

13. Phthalates
Phthalates are found in odorants, perfumes, deodorants and body lotions. Phthalates are linked to cancer, endocrine disorders and liver or lung damage.
14. Placental extract (Placental extract)
Placenta extracts are often found in products for skin and hair, and can cause endocrine disorders.
15. Polyethylene glycol (PEG)
Polyethylene glycol (PEG) is used in cosmetics and beauty products. It may be infected with two cancer substances: 1,4-dioxane and ethylene oxide.
16. Skin softener derived from silicone
This emollient is associated with tumor growth and skin irritation , often added to products for skin and hair.
17. Sodium lauryl (ether) sulfate (SLS, SLES)
These irritants are found in soap, shampoo, shower gel and toothpaste. This is a kind of industrial degreaser that is now commonly used to foam. It absorbs into the body and irritates the skin.
18. Chalk (Talc)
Talc powder is used in children's chalks, deodorants and makeup products, causing ovarian cancer and respiratory problems.
19. Toluene
Used in products for nails and hair dyes, toluene causes endocrine problems and the immune system.
20. Triclosan
Triclosan is found in antibacterial products and is linked to cancer and endocrine disorders.
